Berlin, July 12, SPA --German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Saturday shewas hoping for a new movement in the Middle East peace process from thepending launch of a Mediterranean Union between members of theEuropean Union and other littoral states. A resolution of the Middle East conflict would bring stability tothe region, Merkel said in her weekly broadcast. "Naturally we will talk in Paris about reaching a two-statesolution creating a Jewish state for Israel and a Palestinian state," she said. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian PresidentMahmoud Abbas are among the 44 heads of state and governmentattending the Paris launch on Sunday as guests of the project'sprimary initiator, President Nicolas Sarkozy, according to a report of DPA. Merkel, welcomed the launch as giving new impetus to the EU'solder initiative, the Barcelona Process.
