6 Afghan police killed in mistaken US strike

KABUL, Afghanistan, December 10, SPA -- Authorities say that U.S. forces mistakenly killed six Afghan police and a civilian afterthe police fired on the Americans during an operation. Associated Press quoted a U.S. military statement as saying that the deaths early Wednesday resulted from a «tragic case of mistaken identity on both parts. » The statement says the police fired on the U.S. forcesafter the troops battled and killed an armed militant closeto a police station in the city of Qalat, the capital ofZabul province. Thirteen Afghans were wounded in thefirefight. Gilani Khan, the deputy provincial police chief, says theattack collapsed the police station's roof.
