Prague, Czech Republic, September 10, SPA --The Czech Republic'sgovernment approved the second and final part of a missiledefense treaty with the United States on Wednesday, but theagreement still requires the approval of parliament, whereit faces strong opposition, AP reported Meanwhile, Russia warned once again that its ballisticrockets could be aimed at the proposed U.S. missile defensesystem, which would involve tracking radar in the CzechRepublic and 10 interceptor missiles in Poland. Russiafiercely opposes the plan, saying U.S. militaryinstallations in former Soviet satellites pose a threatRussian security. The Czech government already has approved the mainbilateral treaty allowing the United States to build aradar base near Prague. The second «complementary» treaty approved Wednesdayregards taxes and the legal status of U.S. soldiers to bedeployed at the base. Czech Defense Minister VlastaParkanova said she expects to sign it with U.S. DefenseSecretary Robert Gates during an informal meeting of NATOdefense ministers in London next week. Poland and the United States reached their deal lastmonth, and Washington wants to have the Polish and Czechsites in operation by about 2012.
