Jordanian King holds talks with Russian President

Moscow, August 25, SPA -- Jordan's King Abdullah II held talks Sunday with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi on ways to promote cooperation between the two countries as well as the latest developments in the Middle East and the Caucasus. During the talks, the Jordanian Monarch expressed satisfaction with the advanced level of Jordanian-Russian ties, and the two leaders stressed their willingness to develop bilateral ties, especially in the economic field to achieve the two countries' interests. On the Middle East peace process, he highlighted the importance of Russia's active role in the next stage to push the process forward. The Jordanian Monarch reiterated the importance of support by the international community to bring about just and permanent peace in the region and reach a just solution to the Palestinian issue that would lead to an end to Israeli occupation, the restoration of Palestinian rights and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on Palestinian national land in line with international resolutions. The meeting also touched on the conflict between Russia and Georgia, Jordan's Petra news agency reported.
