Georgia says Russia meets partial pullout deadline

TBILISI, Georgia, September 13, SPA -- A Georgian official says Russiahas fulfilled its commitment to withdraw forces fromseveral positions in western Georgia. Security Council chief Alexander Lomaia says the Russianspulled out of posts in the Black Sea port of Poti and othernearby areas on Saturday. He says about 250 soldiers and more than 20 armoredvehicles left for the separatist Abkhazia province, according to a report of the Associated Press. Russia had promised to withdraw from the positions byMonday under an agreement reached last week with FrenchPresident Nicolas Sarkozy. Russia should withdraw allforces from Georgian territory outside Abkhazia andseparatist South Ossetia by next month.
