COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, August 09, SPA -- Sri Lanka's air force bombed anddestroyed a Tamil Tiger rebel base in the country'sembattled north on Saturday, while infantry clashes in thesame region killed 31 rebels and four soldiers, themilitary said. In the latest assault, air force fighter jets pounded aTamil Tiger supply base and an intelligence operationcenter deep in rebel-held Mullaitivu district earlySaturday, said air force spokesman Wing Commander JanakaNanayakkara. He said the airstrikes were successful and had destroyedthe base. Separately, helicopter gunships overnight hit a radiocenter operated by the Sea Tigers, the rebels' naval wing,in their stronghold of Kilinochchi, he was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/580574
