BAMIYAN, Afghanistan, June 08 (SPA) - U.S. first ladyLaura Bush made an unannounced visit to Afghanistan on Sunday, the Associated Press reported. She arrived under tight security for an 8-1/2-hour trip to the Muslim country. Mrs. Bush said her visit was a chance to showcase "hopefulsigns" of reconstruction. Another major thrust of her mission was to shore up theinternational commitment to the country. Mrs Bush said "The international community can't drop Afghanistan now at this very crucial time." After a brief stop in Kabul, Mrs. Bush boarded a helicopterto the central town of Bamiyan, where she was met by New Zealand troops. The New Zealand troops in Bamiyan form one of 26 ProvincialReconstruction Teams across the country, units aimed atbringing aid and development meant to undercut the insurgency.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/563261
