Security Council continues consultations on Gaza

United Nations, January 23, SPA -- The U.N. Security Council will continue consultations on the emergency session held Tuesday on the looming humanitarian crisis and Israel’s closure of the Karni border crossing, and members hope to reach consensus on a statement Wednesday. The 15-member council met to consider the draft presidential statement written by Libya, but some council members, including the United States, held reservations about the absence of specific text on Palestinian rocket fire into southern Israel. Indonesian Ambassador Marty Natalegawa told The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) he noticed a consensus on expressing concern over the humanitarian situation and the need for Israel to lift its border restrictions, but realized that there are nuances on how to express the council’s view.--MORE www.spa.gov.sa/520260
