SEOUL, South Korea, June 10, SPA -- A U.S. diplomat traveled Tuesday to North Korea for talks on the communist nation's effortsto disable its main nuclear reactor, the Associated Press reported. Sung Kim, the U.S. State Department's top Korea expert,crossed into North Korea via the heavily fortified landborder with South Korea, the U.S. Embassy in Seoul said. Kim was to stay in North Korea for two days to discuss howit can finish several remaining steps in disabling itsYongbyong reactor as well the possibility of blowing up acooling tower there, according to the State Department andthe embassy. North Korea has promised to provide a complete declarationof its nuclear programs in return for aid and politicalconcessions, but has not yet done so. It handed 18,500pages of nuclear records to the U.S. in May. The trip comes as the U.S. and South Korea and othernations involved in North Korean nuclear disarmament talksplanned to meet in Seoul later Tuesday to discuss detailsof promised energy aid to the North.
