"They said they'd welcome someone who could talk about whathappened in Northern Ireland because there are similarities,"Beckingham said. "One of the key areas in Northern Ireland was thede-commission of weapons and (their) hand-over." Peace talks between the Philippine government and the MILF havebeen suspended since September 2006 over disagreements on how to setup a proposed Islamic homeland in Mindanao and other related issues, DPA reported. Beckingham said there are "three or four people from NorthernIreland and in Britain who would certainly have the background andthe experience" to help the Philippines and the MILF in the peacenegotiations. He said an agreement forged between Britain and the Philippines onSaturday would pave the way for the involvement of British experts inthe peace process in the troubled southern region of Mindanao.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/552173
