Israel raids Islamic buildings in West Bank town

NABLUS, West Bank, July 07 (SPA) - Israel raided aPalestinian religious affairs office on Monday and ordered aschool, a clinic and a mosque shut for three years in theoccupied West Bank, Reuters reported. An Israeli military official said the raid in the city ofNablus was aimed against "the so-called charitableorganizations." Hassan Hilali, director of the Palestinian Religious AffairsMinistry's office in the city, said "we found broken doors andcabinets overturned" and documents appeared to have been taken. Hilali said soldiers posted notices on the doors of the highschool, mosque and clinic saying they would remain closed forthree years. Israel's Haaretz newspaper said the Israeli military wasplanning to step up a campaign against a Hamas-linked charitablenetwork in the West Bank. Hamas regards these organizations as legitimate providers ofservices and says they have nothing to do with the group's fightagainst Israel. Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri said in Gaza the Israeli raidwas a crime. "We call upon all concerned parties to compel the Occupationto stop its aggression," he said, using a Hamas term for Israel.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/571657
