BUJUMBURA, Burundi, May 26, SPA -- A joint statement by the Burundigovernment and the country's last remaining rebel groupsays they have signed a «cessation of hostilities. » The statement says Monday's pact has been signed byEvariste Ndayishiniye for the government and NationalLiberation Force spokesman Pasteur Habimana. A previous cease-fire signed in 2006 failed to hold, afterthe two sides disagreed on its implementation althoughneither side renounced it. At least 17 people died infighting between the rebels and government last month. Therebels were also blamed for shelling the capital ofBujumbura in May, according to a report of the Associated Press.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/559304
