KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, June 14, SPA -- Police briefly detained five opposition activists who brought dozens of children outside Malaysia's national palace Saturday to protest a law thatallows detention without trial. The children carried teddy bears as a symbolic gesture topresent to Malaysia's king to plead for the release oftheir fathers held under a law that enables suspectsregarded as national security threats to be imprisonedindefinitely without trial. S. Jayathas, a spokesman for the so-called «Father'sDay» protest, said police detained five adultdemonstrators _ including three opposition members ofParliament _ for holding a public rally without obtainingapproval. Police freed them without charge after more than an hourof questioning, Jayathas said.
