Parole for Bangladeshi ex-premier Hasina extended again

Dhaka, October 05 , SPA -- Bangladesh's military-backed interim government onSunday further extended the parole deadline for ex-premier SheikhaHasina Wazed, now in Canada after medical treatment abroad, according to dpa. "Sheikha Hasina's parole has been extended from October 6 toNovember 6 in continuation with the earlier order," a Home Ministrycircular said. The extension was the second Sunday and third since Hasina wasreleased from prison on June 11 by an executive order of Bangladesh'sinterim administration. Earlier Sunday, the High Court ordered the government to refrainfrom arresting or harassing Hasina and passed an order for anextension until October 20 after hearing her petitions for bail intwo graft cases, counsel of the former prime minister said. Hasina, Bangladeshi prime minister from 1996-2001 and currentchief of its major opposition Awami League party, was allowed to goto the United States for medical treatment after her release in June. Hasina, now staying in Canada with her daughter, was implicated infive graft cases after the military-backed government installed inJanuary 2007 launched a massive anti-crime drive, mainly againstpoliticians.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/595431
