COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, June 23, SPA -- The Sri Lankan military saysfighting in the embattled northern region has killed 33ethnic Tamil rebels and six government soldiers. Military spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara says the latestround of battles took place in the Mannar, Vavuniya,Welioya and Jaffna areas in northern Sri Lanka throughoutSunday. In the worst fighting, army troops captured six rebelbunkers in Vavuniya after a battle that killed 10 rebelsand five soldiers, he was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.
