anti-secular activities ISTANBUL, March 15 , SPA --Turkey's chief prosecutor isseeking to disband the country's governing party and to bar Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan fromholding public office, ap quoted a court official as saying. Erdogan's party «has tried to chip away at the principleof secularism,» by claiming that the constitutionaldescription of secularism is «obscure,» AbdurrahmanYalcinkaya claimed in an indictment. Yalcinkaya petitioned the Constitutional Court _ Turkey'shighest court _ on Friday for the closure of the rulingJustice and Development Party, which dominates the 550-seatParliament with 340 lawmakers. He said the party was «thefocal point of anti-secular activities.» The move took the nation by surprise. The politicalleadership complained that the action undermined thecountry's democratic principles.
