55 killed in blast at a mosque in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, DECEMBER 21, SPA -- At least 55 people were killed when a suicide bomber struck congregants at a mosque, gathered for Eid Al-Adha prayers, in the village of former Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao, police said. Sherpao remained unhurt while his son was injured. Over seventy persons were wounded in the bombing that took place in the Sherpao village of Charsadda district of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP). Police said the attack was aimed at Sherpao, who was interior minister till Dec 16. The mosque was adjacent to Sherpao's residence. Senior police official Feroze Shah confirmed fifty deaths. But other reports said those who died in the bombing were more than fifty-five. Sherpao was standing in the second row of the Eid congregation.
