BAGHDAD, November 17, SPA -- U.S. troops killed six suspects and detained ten others Saturday in raids across central and northern Iraq, the military said. In one operation northeast of Samarra, U.S. soldierskilled two armed suspects in a house, the U.S. military saidin a statement. Four other suspects were seen running into an adjacentbuilding, the statement said. U.S. forces called for themto come out, but no one responded, so the Americans«engaged the armed men, killing four» of them, it said. Afterward, U.S. troops discovered that three of thesuspects killed were wearing suicide vests at the time, themilitary said. A weapons cache and bomb-making materialswere also found, it was quoted as saying by the Associated Press. U.S. aircraft then destroyed the two buildings becausethey were rendered «structurally unsafe,» the statementsaid. During the raid, three suspects were captured in twoother locations in the same area, it said. In the Iraqi capital, U.S. soldiers captured six suspectsin raids targeting Iraqis accused of helping foreigninsurgents, the military said. One of the men was on themilitary's wanted list, it said.
