New Delhi, Oct 26, SPA -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel's upcoming visitto India is expected to enhance strategic and economic relations asboth countries are set to sign a number of accords for cooperation invarious fields ranging from trade to technology, DPA quoted officials as sayingFriday. Merkel's visit - her first to India, two years after taking overas chancellor - would provide an impetus to economic ties between theEuropean industrial giant and Asia's fastest-growing economies, itwas said. Retired major general Deepankar Bannerjee, director of the NewDelhi-based strategic think-tank Institute of Peace and ConflictStudies (IPCS) said strengthening economic ties topped the agendafor the Merkel visit. The German leader is due to be accompanied by executives from topGerman companies and a high-level delegation, including the FederalMinister of Education and Research Annette Schavan, during her four-day visit to New Delhi and the western Mumbai city.
