COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, Aug 05, SPA -- Government troops clashed with separatist Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka's volatile north, killing three rebels, the military said Sunday. The clash took place late Saturday in the northerndistrict of Vavuniya, which borders rebel-controlledterritory, an official at the Defense Ministry informationcenter said on condition of anonymity in line with policy. The Associated Press quoted army troops as confirming that three insurgents werekilled in the fighting while the army suffered nocasualties.
