primary SEOUL, South Korea, October 15, SPA -- South Korea's former point man on North Korea, a staunch advocate of engagement withPyongyang, won the liberal party's presidential nominationMonday to face an uphill battle in the December electionagainst the favored conservatives. Chung Dong-young, a 54-year-old TV anchorman turnedpolitician, was chosen by the United New Democratic Partywith 216,984 votes after a month of primaries. The nextclosest candidate _ Sohn Hak-kyu, a former governor ofGyeonggi Province that surrounds Seoul _ had 168,799 votes.
