Warsaw, September 07, SPA -- Poland's governing Law and Justice (PiS) partyscored 30 per cent support ahead of its liberal archrival CivicPlatform (PO), with 28 per cent backing in an opinion poll publishedFriday, according to DPA. The survey by the independent Warsaw-based CBOS pollsters was thesecond this week which showed the PiS pulling ahead of the PO andcame as legislators were poised to vote on a motion to dissolveparliament Friday. The motion was expected to pass and thus trigger an early generalelection by October. The left-wing LiD scored 12 per cent in the CBOS poll while theconservative Polish Peasants' Party (PSL) cleared the 5 per centthreshold required to enter parliament. However, the populistSamoobrona farmers' party and the Catholic-nationalist League ofPolish Families (LPR) did not. A separate survey by the PBS DGA pollsters published Tuesday alsoshowed the PiS scoring 30 per cent support compared to 26 per centfor the PO. The PO had lead all previous polls with an advantage of at least 5per cent over nearest rival the PiS. Analysts note that the distribution of votes in both polls rulesout a stable independent majority government of 231 legislators forany single party. Taking into consideration ongoing mud-slinging among politicalrivals, a stable minority government is also highly unlikely, givingrise to the strong probability that chronic instability will continueto plague Polish politics in the wake of a likely general election.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/480828
