Nigerian president to swear in cabinet after two months in power

Abuja, JULY 25, SPA -- Nigeria's President Umaru Yar'Adua is set to swearin his cabinet Thursday, nearly two months after he became leader ofAfrica's most populous country, DPA QUOTED his spokesman as saying Wednesday. Senators approved 39 of 40 ministers in Yar'Adua's governmentTuesday, but rejected Bode Augusto, considered a prime candidate forfinance minister, and did not give any reason for the disapproval. "President Yar'Adua will swear in ministers who got senateapproval at the council chamber on Thursday," spokesman OlusegunAdeniyi said. "Portfolios to be assigned to each of the ministers will be knownon Thursday," he added. Yar'Adua, who took power May 29, appointed two oppositionpoliticians from the All Nigeria Peoples Party, which has agreed tojoin a government of national unity.
