Dhaka, July 15 , SPA -- The Election Commission in Bangladesh on Sundayannounced a new schedule for a general election which was stalled inJanuary amidst rising political unrest, according to dpa. Under the new schedule disclosed by Chief Election Commissioner DrATM Shamsul Huda, the nation will go to polls in September 2008 toelect a new parliament restoring democracy, which had been threatenedby escalating violence. Huda also revealed plans for the holding of local governmentelections in cities, towns and villages in January, which were alsoput off by threats of spreading turmoil. Huda, who was appointed head of the Election Commission six monthsago by the army-backed interim government, told a news conferenceSunday that the upcoming parliamentary polls would be held on thebasis of new electoral scrolls.
