Chinese President to sign energy deals on trip to Australia

BEIJING, August 28, SPA -- Chinese President Hu Jintao will oversee the signing of business deals on energy and naturalresources and propose a forest-management initiative tocope with climate change when he visits Australia nextweek, officials said Tuesday. Hu's seven-day trip will be divided between a state visitto Australia and attendance at a summit of Asia-Pacificleaders and underscores the growing economic links betweenresource-hungry China and resource-rich Australia. Among the agreements Hu's delegation, which will includebusiness executives, expects to sign will be deals on«large-scale energy and natural resources cooperation,»Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei said at a mediabriefing. He and other officials present declined to providedetails, saying that the negotiations were still going on. Dow Jones Newswires reported last week that one of thedeals could be a long-term contract for Australia toprovide liquefied natural gas for a terminal underconstruction in eastern China.
