China says terrorism, separatists pose threat to Beijing

BEIJING, September 11, SPA -- China believes terrorism is the biggest threat facing next year's Olympic Games and has called forcloser international cooperation to prevent possibleattacks, state media said Tuesday. «Although the general security situation for the BeijingOlympics remains stable, we still face the challenges ofterrorism, separatism and extremism,» Public SecurityMinister Zhou Yongkang was quoted by the China Dailynewspaper as saying. «Terrorism in particular poses the biggest threat,» Zhoutold a security conference in Beijing on Monday, the papersaid. Zhou proposed more information sharing betweeninternational security forces and the establishment of anearly risk warning mechanism, the paper said, withoutgiving details.
