Islamabad, Aug 14, SPA -- On the eve of its 60thIndependence Day, Pakistan Monday said it wants to change itssix-decade-long turbulent relations with India by settling alldisputes, building trust and enhancing economic cooperationbetween the two countries. "It has been complex relationship arising out of disputesfrom the day of Partition over distribution of assets,movement of people and the Kashmir issue," Pakistan Foreignoffice spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said when asked to describeIndia and Pakistan ties in recent years and Pakistan's visionfor the next 60 years. The disputes kept the relations "below normal", Aslam,who would soon relinquish her post to join as PakistanAmbassador to Italy, said at a media briefing here. "We have conflicts, wars and tensions. In between wehave had periods of negotiations and engagements. For the lastfew years, we have the pattern that there would negotiationsfollowed by breakdowns, conflict and tensions and thennegotiating table," she said. "In the last few years we have seen sustained efforts onboth sides to engage in constructive dialogue process,"she said referring to the assertions by leaderships of boththe countries that there were intense negotiations"specially on the Kashmir dispute". "What we hope to achieve in the next 60 years is aneighbourhood where we have no disputes or settled ourdisputes. We would have economic cooperation. We would be ableto take advantage of economic opportunities in each otherscountries. Like other regions in the world to have closereconomic cooperation," she was quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India. "We would like to build trust between the two countriesso that the whole region can benefit and certainly a vision ofPakistan in the next 60 years is of peace, prosperity and goodrelations with all the countries, particularly in ourneighbourhood," Aslam said.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/474933
