Baghdad, JULY 13, SPA -- Five Iraqi policemen were killed and 12 otherswounded in an early morning attack on the Baghdad quarters of Iraq'sInterior Ministry, DPA QUOTED the independent news agency Voices ofIraq (VOI) as reporting Friday. The attack happened before a blanket curfew on the capital cameinto effect on Friday morning. According to the report, which cited official security sources,unidentified militants carrying machine guns attacked the ministry'sguard towers from the direction of Bab al-Sharqi (Eastern Gate) incentral Baghdad. The gunmen were "inside vehicles that stopped during the attacknear the Kilani fuel station near the interior ministry gates," alocal police source told VOI. Following the incident, US and Iraqi forces sealed off the area. US-led coalition forces said in a statement earlier Friday thatthey captured a high-ranking "special groups cell leader" during apre-dawn raid in Baghdad.
