Five killed, 20 injured in blast in India's Guwahati city

New Delhi, June 23, SPA -- At least five people were killed and 20 others injured in a bomb explosion triggered by separatists in India's north-eastern Guwahati city on Saturday, police said. The bomb which was hidden in a cycle exploded near a vegetable market in the Machkhowa area of the city, senior police official Rajen Singh told reporters. He said the blast was carried out by rebels belonging to the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA). "While four people were killed on the scene, the fifth victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. There were two children among the victims," Singh was quoted as saying by Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA). Doctors at a state-run hospital where the wounded were taken described the condition of four injured as "critical."
