United Nations, April 6, SPA -- U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Thursday he had spoken with Lebanese parliament speaker Nabih Berri about holding meetings between Lebanese factions on forming an international tribunal to try suspects in the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri. "I hope through those meetings the Lebanese government and people will be able to take the necessary constitutional procedures. It is crucially important at this time to establish at an early date, as urged by the Security Council, a special tribunal into the assassination case of former Prime Minister Hariri," said Ban. Ban told reporters that Berri had asked him if U.N. legal counsel Nicoas Michel would attend the consultative meetings between Lebanese factions on the constitutional process of forming an international tribunal. The U.N. secretary-general said that he would be happy to send Michel if all parties agreed.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/438711
