Child soldiers found in Somali capital, UNICEF says

Geneva, JUNE 8, SPA -- Up to 400 child soldiers who had fought with theIslamic Courts Union, have been discovered in Mogadishu by governmentforces, DPA QUOTED the UN children's agency, UNICEF, as saying Friday. They were found during an operation in the trouble-torn capitalwhere the transitional government and African Union forces arestruggling to quell the remants of an Islamic group that had held thecapital at the end of 2006. UNICEF, which has its headquarters in Geneva, said it wanted tomeet the children, who had been returned to their homes. It reminded all parties that children should not be used inconflicts. It said Somalia was one of 58 countries who had signed anagreement in Paris in February aimed at ending the use of childsoldiers.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/457025
