Gaza City, MAY 16, SPA -- Gunmen opened fire on a Fatah police jeep inGaza City Wednesday, killing the driver and five detained Hamasmembers as it was on its way to the Preventive Security headquarters,REPORTED DPA. Four more people were killed in ongoing clashes between Hamas andFatah militants elsewhere in Gaza City, bringing Wednesday's deathtoll to at least 17, and the total since the fighting started fourdays ago to at least 44. The driver of the jeep was a member in the Fatah-dominatedPreventive Security Force and the attackers may not have known thatarrested Hamas militants were inside. Three members of the National Security Force, also dominated byFatah, were killed in exchanges of fire in the so-called "hot zone,"which includes the Preventive Security headquarters, the house of itschief Rashid Abu Shbak that was attacked overnight, as well as theGaza residence of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
