Security tightened in Sri Lanka's capital after deadly blasts

Colombo, May 29, SPA -- Security forces are searching vehicles and peopleentering Colombo the day after a blast on the outskirts of thecapital killed eight and more than 25 remain hospitalized, militaryand hospital officials said today. All vehicles, including busses, heading to the capital were beingsearched at the main entry points for explosives and suspiciouspeople, while security for certain buildings was also stepped up,military officials said. According to the dpa, two members of the elite Special Task Force (STF) succumbed to their injuries suffered in Monday's claymore mine blast, atRatmalana, 10 kilometres south of the capital, pushing the death tollto eight while the condition of two others remained critical. Though the blast was targeting a truck carrying STF personnel,six of those killed and 26 injured were civilians.-- SPA www.spa.gov.sa/454099
