Turkish premier, Iranian officials review Iraq's security situation

TEHRAN, Iran, Dec 3, SPA -- Turkey's premier on Sunday held talks on the security situation in Iraq with a top Iranian official and met with Iran's president to discuss «the most important issues in the region.» «President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the most important issues in the region and Islamic world,» state-TV reported, but did not elaborate. Iran's Vice President Parviz Davoodi and Erdogan in a separate meeting reviewed security in Iraq, state-TVreported. Each country shares more than 500 kilometers (300 miles) with Iraq. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammed Ali Hosseini on Sunday reiterated Iran's pledge to help return stability to Iraq. Erdogan's trip comes after the visit last week by IraqiPresident Jalal Talabani to Iran during which he said Iranand Iraq had reached an agreement on security in hiscountry, but did not give details.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/408260
