ISLAMABAD, FEB 12, SPA -- Pakistan's President General Pervez Musharraf has phoned yesterday his Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak and apprised him of his discussions with leaders of Indonesia, Malaysia, Iran and Turkey for seeking a resolution of the Palestinian dispute and the progress on the new initiative, says an official statement. The president visited nine key Muslim countries in the recent past to discuss the deteriorating Middle East situation and to evolve a consensus for a new initiative to resolve the crisis. The joint initiative by a group of like-minded Muslim countries is also aimed at bringing harmony in the Islamic world, the statement said. Musharraf apprised Mubarak of his talk with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz in which he congratulated him over his efforts to promote reconciliation between the Palestinian Fatah and Hamas movements.
