United Nations, JAN 9, SPA -- The U.N. Security Council, in a ceremonial open meeting on Monday, adopted a presidential statement pledging to uphold the U.N. Charter and reiterating council efforts to reduce the global threat of terrorism. States must ensure that any measures taken to combat terrorism comply with all their obligations under international law, in particular international human rights law, refugee law, and humanitarian law, said the council statement, read by Russian Ambassador and current council president Vitaly Churkin.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/416729
