BRUSSELS, Belgium, Aug 16, SPA -- European Union diplomats and security experts were meeting Wednesday to discuss the planned U.N.-backed international peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon and the coordination of humanitarian assistance there, an official said. The EU's Political and Security Committee will hold itsfirst meeting since the return of EU foreign policy chiefJavier Solana from a three-day trip to Lebanon and Israellast weekend, EU spokeswoman Mary Brazier said. Thecommittee, made up of political directors of the memberstates' foreign ministries, is in charge of crisismanagement operations. The planned 15,000-strong international force would police the cease-fire that came into force Monday after more than a month of battling between Israel and Hezbollahfighters. Solana has said he will call on all EU nations tocontribute to the peacekeeping force. It was still unclearhow many EU nations would contribute its troops.
