Washington, Oct 13, SPA -- U.S. President George W. Bush and a top Chinese envoy have agreed that North Korea must face strong measures for its recent nuclear tests in defiance of the international community, officials in Washington said Thursday. Deputy national security adviser JD Crouch told reporters that said Bush met with Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan and determined that there was a broad understanding that there needed to be a strong response. "We all agree that we need a resolution and we need to go forward with strong measures, Crouch added. There's a possibility of differences ... but I think it s a very major step and a positive step, that all the major players in this are arguing for a strong resolution. There was no discussion of specific details of a resolution on North Korea's nuclear program and declared arms test, Crouch said. Tang's meeting with Bush came after similar meetings earlier in the day with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley to discuss sanctions against Pyongyang. After her meeting with the Chinese diplomat, Rice said the Chinese clearly understand the gravity of the situation. "I believe we'll get a very good resolution that will demonstrate to the North Koreans that the international community is very much united in its condemnation of this test," she said.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/395879
