United Nations, OCT 11, SPA -- Consultations on next steps to deal with the North Korean nuclear test are ongoing among the permanent five members of the U.N. Security Council and Japan, and consultations among nuclear experts of the 15-member council will take place on Tuesday afternoon. I think it is really in the drafting process that many of these issues will be worked out. We had a good discussion with those who had instructions to discuss, said U.S. Ambassador John Bolton, who expressed disdain that although the other members had received instructions from their capitals, Russia had no instructions from Moscow. On Monday, the United States proposed 13 elements as the basis of a draft resolution, including bans on military equipment and luxury goods. I see many elements of the 13-point proposal are good, a good basis for working. All countries exchanged views, said Chinese Ambassador Wang Guangya after the meeting. Bolton told reporters that he had briefly met with Wang after the closed-door meeting with China, Britain, France, Russia, and Japan. Bolton has continually stressed the need to address the North Korean nuclear situation quickly. We think it s important to get these discussions in frame because the North Koreans have been engaged in a variety of covert methods to get missile technology, he said. Japanese Ambassador Kenzo Oshima said that his government is considering additional punitive measures on a bilateral basis.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/395527
