Prince Saud al-Faisal Leads Saudi Delegation to Rome Conference

Rome, July 27, SPA – Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal led the SaudI delegation to Rome International Conference on Lebanon which was held yesterday. The conference pledged to support the Lebanese government so as to enable it face the political, economic and security challenges, particularly at this time when Lebanon is facing a vicious Israeli aggression. The conference urged Israel to practice self-strain. A statement issued here yesterday at the end of the conference expressed a deep anxiety over the human losses and destruction of the infrastructure installations in Lebanon . THE STATEMENT CALLED FOR EXTENDING URGENT HUMANITARIAN assistance to the Lebanese people. The conference voiced determination on reaching a ceasefire in a manner that ends violence and the current aggressive practices . The conference said the resolutions 1680, 1559 and 425 issued by the UN's security council in addition to the declaration of G-8 and the agreement of the national reconciliation stipulated in Taif accord and the armistice of 1949 constitute the principles that guide the efforts of the international community to help the government and people of Lebanon. The conference underlinEd the importance of the implementation of these resolutions issued by the security council and Taif accord which stipulated deployment of the Lebanese armed forces in all Lebanese territories as well as disarmament of the weapons of the militiamen . The conference called for convening of an international conference for the donors so as to boost the Lebanese economy. The conference was attended by representatives of Saudi Arabia, Italy, the US, the UN, Canada. Cyprus, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Jordan, Russia, Spain, Turkey, BritaIn, the European Union and the World Band in addition to the representatives of Lebanon. --SPA 27/07/2006 11:48 ت م www.spa.gov.sa/378509
