KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 26 (SPA) - MALAYSIA MAY HOST AN EMERGENCY SUMMIT OF ISLAMIC NATIONS AS EARLY AS NEXT WEEK TO DISCUSS THE WAR IN LEBANON, DIPLOMATIC SOURCES SAID ON WEDNESDAY. THE ORGANISATION OF ISLAMIC CONFERENCE (OIC) TALKS, TO BE CHAIRED BY MALAYSIA, ARE LIKELY TO ADD WEIGHT TO CALLS FOR AN IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE BETWEEN ISRAEL AND THE HIZBOLLAH MILITIA. "WE ARE WORKING TOWARDS A LEADERS’ SUMMIT, UPGRADING IT FROM THE FOREIGN MINISTERS’ LEVEL," A MALAYSIAN DIPLOMAT TOLD REUTERS. "THERE HAS BEEN A SUGGESTION IT COULD BE AT SUMMIT LEVEL," HE SAID. "THE IDEA IS TO HAVE IT AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE GIVEN THE URGENCY OF THE MATTER." THE 15-DAY CONFLICT HAS KILLED AT LEAST 418 PEOPLE IN LEBANON AND AT LEAST 42 ISRAELIS. FOUR U.N. OBSERVERS WERE KILLED IN AN ISRAELI AIR STRIKE ON TUESDAY. THE OIC GROUPS 57 COUNTRIES.
