ISLAMABAD, AUG 30, SPA – Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz survived a no confidence motion as the opposition’s move met with failure on receiving just 136 votes as against the minimum required 172 in the 342-member National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) Tuesday night, parliamentary officials said. The prime minister, describing the failure of no-trust motion as a victory of democracy and truth, asked the opposition to shun negative politics and join hands with the government for strengthening the democratic institutions. Aziz turned down the allegations levelled by opposition in the 500-page charge sheet and termed it a pack of lie. “All decisions are taken in the interest of the country,” the prime minister said addressing the National Assembly after his ruling coalition defeated the no trust motion. The prime minister said the government offers opposition to come up with joint efforts, strengthen democracy and democratic institutions and make Pakistan a strong fort of Islam.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/385987
