Islamabad to Take Decision on Sending Troops to Lebanon

Islamabad, Aug 21, SPA -- Pakistan would take decision on sending troops to Lebanon or otherwise in its best national interest in view, Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri said.“National interest is supreme and no step would be taken that goes against it,” he told the reporters.“I have just returned from visit to Syria and Lebanon and talked to leadership of these countries. Matters like internal situation of Lebanon, interpretation of various clauses of UN resolution 1701 and public opinion in our own country would be kept in view while taking decision in this regard,” Kasuri said. Regarding Pakistan's stand on Lebanon crisis, he said from the day one Islamabad had strongly condemned Israeli aggression and demanded for the ceasefire. Kasuri said in fact core issue of Palestine has to be resolved to avert such situation in future adding unless Palestine issue is resolved in accordance with the aspirations of people of Palestine peace cannot be guaranteed in the Middle East. About postponement of dialogue between Pakistan and India, Kasuri said by holding talks India is not doing any favor to Pakistan rather it is in the interest of two countries. He said composite dialogue and peace process initiated by the two countries for normalization of relations and sorting out their outstanding issues including core issue of Kashmir is in mutual interest of the two countries. The foreign minister said peace and stability is essential for economic progress and attracting investment and continuation of peace process and composite dialogue is very important in this regard. He said India postponed dialogue following Mumbai blasts and now ball is in India's court to restart this process.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/384078
