Pakistan to get First F-22P Frigate from China

Islamabad, May 29, SPA -- The first F-22P frigate will be delivered to Pakistan Navy by China in 2008 and the other three by 2013, says Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir. On return from visits to China and Indonesia, the naval chief expressed complete satisfaction over Pakistan's frigates deal with China. Transfer of technology is key element of the contract, which would give necessary boost to the local expertise, Tahir said adding that the keel for construction of the first F-22P frigate will be laid at the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai this year. The naval chief said that the fourth frigate will be constructed in Pakistan. The contract includes upgrading of Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works, training and technical assistance by the Chinese side during construction of fourth F-22P frigate.
