JAKARTA, Indonesia, AUG 8, SPA -- Rival police and military unitsclashed on Indonesia's Sumatra island on Tuesday, leavingone police officer and one soldier dead, a police spokesmansaid. The gun battle was «due to a misunderstanding» afterpolice stopped a truck carrying palm oil that was beingescorted by a solider, Brig. Gen. Anton Bachrul Alam saidwithout elaborating. Two other people were injured, onefrom each force, he said. Alam said a joint military-police team was investigatingthe incident and said the perpetrators would be punished, the Associated Press reported.
