Washington, JULY 25, SPA -- An immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah would be unenforceable, the White House said Monday, emphasizing that the administration would call instead for a “sustainable” solution to the 13 day conflict. “The notion that you have a ceasefire that at this point is unenforceable, does not really get us to the point we need to be at,” said White House spokesman Tony Snow. The message from the White House remained the same: “The United States believes in a sustainable ceasefire,” as U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met with Israeli government officials to discuss a way forward.
