Islamabad, April 12, SPA -- The death toll in Tuesday's bombing at a religious congregation in Karachi rose to 58 with several injured persons being treated at different hospitals, police said Wednesday. "It was a suicide bombing," Advisor on Information to the Sindh government Salahuddin Haider told the reporters. "I believe two bombers struck." A number of important leaders of the Tehrik Awam Ahle Sunnit, the organizer of the gathering, including its chief Haji Hanif Bilo, Mufti Mukhtar Ahmed Qadri, Akram Qadri, Iftikhar Bhatti and Hafiz Mohammad Taqi were blown up in the blast that took place when the congregants were offering Maghrib prayers. The explosion occurred in the first row. The gathering, which was being arranged for the last thirty-five years, was held in connection with the birth celebrations of Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him). Police said no crater was found at the place of the explosion that persuaded them to believe that it was a suicide bombing. The congregation was held at the sprawling Nishter Park.--SPA 15 24 Local Time 12 24 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/353210
