KHARTOUM, MARCH 29, SPA -- THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA HAS ASKED THAT THE NEXT ARAB SUMMIT (THE 19TH SUMMIT) TO BE CONVENED IN EGYPT. DELIVERING THE KINGDOM'S SPEECH AT THE 18TH ARAB SUMMIT HERE TODAY, DR GHAZI AL-QUSEIBI, THE MINISTER OF LABOR, SAID THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA WOULD PREFER THE NEXT SUMMIT TO BE CONVENED IN THE COUNTRY WHICH HOSTS THE ARAB LEAGUE'S HEADQUARTERS IN LINE WITH THE RESOLUTION TAKEN AT THE EXTRAORDINARY ARAB SUMMIT HELD IN CAIRO IN 2000. THE RESOLUTION STIPULATES THAT 'SUMMIT CONFERENCES TO BE CONVENED IN THE COUNTRY WHERE THE ARAB LEAGUE'S HEADQUARTERS ARE LOCATED UNLESS THE COUNTRY WHICH CHAIRS THE SUMMIT HOSTS IT'. IN THE SPEECH DR AL-QUSEIBI EXPRESSED APPRECIATION FOR THE WARM WELCOME GIVEN TO THE ARAB LEADERS BY THE SUDANESE GOVERNMENT. HE CONGRATULATED THE ARAB LEADERS FOR THE POSITIVE RESOLUTIONS ADOPTED BY THE 18TH ARAB SUMMIT, AND HOPED THAT THE RESOLUTIONS WOULD POSITIVELY CONTRIBUTE TO REALIZING THE ASPIRATIONS OF THE ARAB NATION. --SPA 13 41 LOCAL TIME 10 41 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/349390
