BUDAPEST, Jan 19 (SPA) - Hungary will hold the first round of its general election on April 9 and the second on April 23, President Laszlo Solyom said on Thursday. "Based on the constitution ... I set April 9 as the date of the first round of the 2006 parliamentary elections," Solyom told a news conference. The election will pit the Socialist-led coalition government against the opposition right-of-centre Fidesz, and the latest opinion poll shows the Socialists on 29 percent and Fidesz on 28 percent. Around 40 percent of the electorate are undecided. No government in Hungary has managed two consecutive terms in power since the first free post-communist elections in 1990, Reuters reported. --SPA 13 56 Local Time 10 56 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/319823
