HANOVER/NEW DELHI, APRIL 23, SPA -- PRIME MINISTER MANMOHAN SINGH IS HOPING GERMANY WILL SUPPORT INDIA’S CIVILIAN NUCLEAR DEAL WITH THE UNITED STATES IN THE NUCLEAR SUPPLIERS’ GROUP (NSG), NEWS AGENCIES REPORTEDSUNDAY. "I HOPE THAT GERMANY CAN USE ITS INFLUENCE AS MEMBER OF THE NSG IN SUPPORT OF INDIA BEING GIVEN THE TREATMENT THAT THE US HAS PROMISED US," SINGH TOLD REPORTERS ABOARD HIS AIRCRAFT TO GERMANY, THE PRESS TRUST OF INDIA (PTI) REPORTED. --SPA SINGH LEFT SATURDAY FOR A THREE-DAY VISIT TO GERMANY. HE IS SCHEDULED TO HOLD TALKS WITH GERMAN CHANCELLOR ANGELA MERKEL SUNDAY. "I WILL BE DISCUSSING ALL ELEMENTS OF OUR STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP WITH GERMANY AND, THEREFORE, ENERGY SECURITY WILL BE HIGH ON THE LIST OF ISSUES THAT WILL FIGURE IN MY DISCUSSION," SINGH SAID. HE INSISTED THAT INDIA SHOULD NOT BE DENIED THE BENEFITS OF TRADE IN CIVILIAN NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGIES, PRODUCTS AND PROCESSES. "WE ARE NOT ASKING THE WORLD, FOR EXAMPLE, TO SUPPLY US BOMBS.
